Don’t miss the world premiere of Broadway and West End star Mark Evans’ hilarious and touching cabaret show “Hide & Seek” this Sunday at 7PM in The Loft at SOPAC!  As part of SOPAC’s inaugural Cabaret in the Loft season, Evans dedicates “Hide & Seek” to anyone seeking to bring their true selves to the surface.

“Hide & Seek” is Evans first solo cabaret show in over a decade.  It explores his life and experiences growing up on a sheep farm in North Wales: gay, chubby, and certainly not interested in the same hobbies as the “normal” boys, Evans felt out of place with the other kids around him.  Thankfully, he fell in love with singing.  Evans ensured people saw him as ‘The Performer’ and hid away every other side of himself.  This brought comfort, safety and…a bucket load of trauma to sing and laugh about in a cabaret three decades later!

“When I was growing up,” Evans explains, “if I had a SOPAC in my life—a place that celebrates diversity and inclusivity—I feel like my upbringing would have been a very different experience.  Being approached by SOPAC and being asked to tell my story as a gay man—because this cabaret series is celebrating minority groups, and wanting to create opportunities for people to see themselves through the arts that are produced here—means the world!”

Curator of SOPAC’s Cabaret in the Loft series Matthew Luminello praises Evans for creating “a wonderfully intimate cabaret that is equal parts funny and vulnerable.”  Luminello continues, “I am so proud and honored that he chose SOPAC to debut his new work, and I can’t wait for our audiences to experience an unforgettable evening!”

All the performers joining Evans at SOPAC this weekend are part of the LGBTQ+ community, including musical director Garrett Taylor and guest artist Angela Grovey; both have worked with Evans on Broadway.  Other musicians include Meghan Rose on guitar, Sean Murphy on bass, and Mike Lunoe on drums.
