What kinds of jobs can I volunteer for?

The SOPAC volunteer program provides an unparalleled opportunity to participate in many aspects of a non-profit arts organization.  SOPAC works closely with volunteers to identify the areas of focus that best suit their interest and experience.

Administrative (year-round) – The administrative volunteer is able to interact with the entire staff on a daily basis and gain a deep understanding of many areas of theatre management.  Activities vary based on the time of year but general tasks include database management, mail merges, general filing, and reception.  Volunteers should have general knowledge of both Word and Excel, and a personable phone manner. This is a perfect position for someone starting out in theatre administration, as it provides a comprehensive overview of the organization, and allows the volunteer to develop a breadth of administrative skills.

Development (spring, summer and fall) – The development volunteer works closely with the SOPAC development staff.  Duties include the research of funding opportunities, preparing of grant proposals, planning and coordinating large mailings, database management and regular interaction with members and donors. This volunteer serves as an integral development staff member.  A writing sample is required when applying for this position.

General Season/House Management (fall, winter and spring) – The house management volunteer works closely with House Management staff during our intense production season.  You will gain insight into the details of theatrical management by participating in event/planning management, attending volunteer training sessions, ushering at shows, customer relations and many other practical, hands-on responsibilities.

Marketing (year-round) – The marketing volunteer works closely with the Marketing department, focusing on publicity and visibility for SOPAC.  This volunteer will assist in daily administrative duties within the marketing department, participate in special marketing events, help distribute marketing materials and help to coordinate online and direct mail outreach. A writing sample is required when applying for this position.
