Maureen Gammon

Maureen Gammon has been a resident of South Orange for many years. Last year, she and her husband, Fred, decided to downsize from their large Montrose Park home, where Maureen served as President of the Montrose Park Historic District Association in South Orange.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she moved to London to complete her graduate degree in Microbiology. Cell biology research requires specialized laboratory design, and she became a recognized expert in the design of these laboratories at Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) in Rahway, NJ. She conducted research at these facilities and has authored or coauthored 22 scientific publications.

Subsequently, she transitioned into Business Operations at Merck Research Laboratories, where she supported 800 researchers within MRL, overseeing all aspects of management for Research Sciences, including expense and capital budgets, space planning, infrastructure, grants, and manpower. She served as the management interface for the coordination and installation of a $16.8 million automated management system for the Sample Repository Building in Rahway.

Maureen has served on several boards, including the Shandelee Music Festival, supporting young pianists pursuing concert careers; the Mental Health Association of Essex County; and the Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee in South Orange.

She enjoys all aspects of structural renovation, and her hobbies include home renovation, gardening, and travel. In September 2026, she returned to the SOPAC Board after a short leave of absence.
