Lifelong South Orange resident Lee Boswell-May has passed away.

Lee was a “Giant of Jazz” and loved music throughout her life. She was a Jazz singer, curator for the Jazz in the Loft series at SOPAC and worked with friend John Lee to bring the annual Giants of Jazz concert to the SOPAC stage.

She was married to renowned bassist Earl May, who, prior to his death, asked her to “keep the music alive.” She faithfully followed his wish until her last breath.

She was a member of Newark’s Bethany Baptist Church, was part of the Jazz Vespers committee and she avidly supported many of the music events produced by her dear friends Mike Griot and Gregory Burrus.

Lee will always live in the affection and admiration of those who knew her and will long be remembered for helping to “keep the music alive” in South Orange.
