Happy Birthday WBGO!

Join WBGO Radio as it celebrates its 44th birthday and Jazz Appreciation Month with the return of the WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series!

The WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series brings world-renowned Jazz musicians to concert halls and venues throughout New York and New Jersey. These concerts give young listeners the chance to discover the enjoyment of Jazz, improvisation, and musical collaboration.

Emceed by the host of WBGO’s Come Sunday program, Lezlie Harrison, this concert features the Jerome Jennings Sextet, presenting a program that explores Jazz melodies and invites audience participation.

We look forward to celebrating WBGO’s birthday with you at SOPAC! 

 

About the Jerome Jennings Sextet

The Jerome Jennings Sextet is led by drummer, activist, and Emmy Award-winning composer Jerome Jennings.  Jennings’ debut recording The Beast reflects on the everyday joys and traumas of Black life in the U.S. It was named one of the top three Jazz releases by NPR, received a four-star rating in Downbeat Magazine, and was nominated for the prestigious French Grand Pix du Disque award for Album of the Year in 2016.

Currently, Jennings teaches, conducts clinics, and engages in educational youth outreach, nationally and internationally.  He is one of the most successful people in the field of Black American music education.  Jennings has been the artist-in-residence and lectured at dozens of universities and academies, including UNC Greensboro, Johns Hopkins Peabody Institute, Rutgers University, The Juilliard School, Jazz Music Institute (Brisbane, Australia), Universidad Sergio Arboleda (Bogota, Columbia), the National Taiwan University of the Arts, and more.
