Hosted by comedian Joe Larson, Laughs in the Loft features stand-up comics from our own South Orange-Maplewood community, Brooklyn and beyond. Each Laughs in the Loft event features several comedians in a New York City-style showcase. The talent is announced approximately two weeks prior to each show.  You never know who might drop in!

Meet October’s Comedians

Jay Black

Jay has headlined clubs across the nation, from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to the Tropicana in Atlantic City and just about every comedy club in between. He also toured extensively in Europe as the host of the US Army’s “I Am Strong” tour. He’s met with equal success on the college market, performing at nearly 1,000 schools across the country, winning the “College Performer of the Year” award once and the “College Comedian of the Year” award three times. For the last ten years, Jay has done a weekly spot on WIP Radio, discussing television, pop culture, and sports. 

In 2009, Jay started writing screenplays with his lifelong friend, Brian Herzlinger, producing a string of successful projects from 2012’s “Paulie” with Paul Sorvino, 2014’s “Meet My Valentine” with Scott Wolf, 2016’s “Love Always Santa” with Margueritte Morea, and the upcoming “Orchard” with Tiffani Thiessan. Jay’s latest screenplay, “Perfect Pose” will go into production in December of 2019, for a 2020 television release. Jay also began acting in his projects, with significant supporting roles in both “Meet My Valentine” and “Love Always, Santa”.

Lance Weiss

A national touring stand-up comedian for the last 19 years, Lance Weiss is also an actor, podcaster & writer based in NYC. He most recently served as a co-executive producer as well as an on-camera talent for KarmaNetwork.com‘s comedy sketch show “Hey Gordon”. Prior to this, he was co-host of CNBC’s “Common Cents” on digital channel Make It, as well as a co-host in several videos for Conde Nast’s channel The Scene. He was a Top 4 finalist in CMT’s “Next Big Comic”, and has been seen on NBC’s “The Today Show,” FOX’s “Laughs,” MTV’s “World of Jenks,” Bravo’s “The Love Broker,” PBS, Comcast, NY1, NY’s FOX 5, NY’s PIX11, Sirius/XM, Today.com, Cosmo.com, AOL.com, NYmag.com, Aboveaverage.com, VisitFlorida.com, Complex News, and in the NY Times, NY Post, and commercials for AT&T, Bud Light, Kit Kat, Liberty Mutual, IBM, and MLB.com.

Gordon Baker-Bone

Gordon Baker-Bone is not a stage name, it’s his real name. It’s also a name you won’t soon want to forget. This NJ native has been performing nationwide and has featured on AXS TV’s Gotham Live and voted one of Brooklyn’s 50 Funniest People in 2016. He’s written for MTV, and is a regular at clubs around New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. He is poised to be a top comedian of his generation.

About Host Joe Larson

Joe is a comedian, husband and father – the former makes the latter well….interesting.

When Joe met his now wife she loved how much he made her laugh. He warned her that while she finds it cute now, she may feel differently when he is unable to do anything but joke during the heat of an argument. As his wife eventually found out “you’re funny all the time!” can quickly turn into “Does everything have to be a joke?”

Perhaps it’s not his fault, Joe is after all a second generation comedian. Much to his parent’s dismay at the age of twenty, Joe went into the family business. Straight away he was chosen College Comedian of the Year at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and shortly after he made the move to New York City where he paid his dues at any club that would give him the mic.

Joe has been on stage at some of the best rooms in the city including the famed Caroline’s On Broadway and Gotham Comedy Club. He was nominated “Best Up-And-Coming Comedian” at the NYC MAC Awards, was a finalist in both the prestigious Johnny Carson Great American Comedy Festival and Boston Comedy Festival and was part of the feature film Stand Up 360. Joe has also been seen on Gotham Comedy Live, NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Laughs on FOX, the Tonight Show’s Laugh Squad and the Speed Channel. On radio he is a repeat guest on Bob and Tom and the Bennington Show.

Joe’s show, Couleur Comedy, was one of the hottest shows in Brooklyn. It brought together the freshest up-and-coming comedians and established pros for a dynamic and exciting evening. Now, a South Orange resident, Joe is bringing his show to SOPAC.
