The Ladies of Laughter Funny & Fabulous Tour includes winners and the best talent from the Ladies of Laughter annual national competition.

What started out as an annual videotape comedy competition in New York to honor comedian Mary Jo Wobker, who helped so many other female comedians break into the stand-up world, has grown in comedy clubs and venues around the tri-state area, including Atlantic City casinos, Caesars, Madison Square Garden, and now SOPAC!

Now known as “The Careerbuilder for Women in Comedy,” previous competition participants have included Amy Schumer, Tammy Pescatelli, and Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch, among many others.   In 2018, Carol Burnett accepted the first ever “Ladies of Laughter Spirit Award” established to honor those women who have inspired others to enter the competitive field of comedy.

Ladies of Laughter (LOL) comes to SOPAC through Creative Community Brain Trust comedy member Liz Glazer.  This is the second of three hilarious shows LOL will host at SOPAC throughout the 2023-24 Season.

Meet the Comedians

Alycia Cooper

Comedian, actress, singer, dancer, and DGA Emmy nominated Director, Cooper is the 2014 Ladies of Laughter Professional winner.  She has entertained the U.S. troops in Japan, Korea, Guam, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Djibouti, Africa.  She was featured in Essence Magazine as “One to Watch.” Her fifth comedy album, “Let Alycia Be Alycia”, cracked the Billboard Top 10.  Cooper has been a “Featured Comic of the Month” on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Laugh 98.

Jane Condon

The 2004 Ladies of Laughter Professional winner, Condon lives in Greenwich, CT, but she’s still a nice person.  She has two boys.  Otherwise, everything’s fine.  The Associated Press has dubbed her “an upper-crust Roseanne” and The New York Times says, “Condon had the audience cackling, guffawing, and in hysterics as she sliced through marriage, husband, kids, politics, and other topics.”  Condon has appeared on ABC-TV’s The View, Lifetime TV’s Girls’ Night Out, as well as The Today Show and NBC’s Last Comic Standing, where she was voted “Audience Favorite—New York.”

Sara Contreras

Contreras is a top female comedian, actor, and writer.  She was Showtime’s 2008 ALMA-nominated (Best Comedy Special) Original Latin Divas of Comedy.  Contreras has performed for the U.S. troops in Iraq as part of the USO tour.  In 2022, she opened for El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico, the iconic salsa band, as part of their 60th anniversary world tour.  Contreras’ hilarious one-woman show, F.R.E.A.K. of Nature, premiered nationally in 2022.  She has performed at the New York Comedy, Marshalls Women in Comedy, Urban Comedy, and the Toyota Comedy festivals.
