Jazz in the Loft

Step into the intimate, electrifying world of Jazz in the Loft with the Marel Hidalgo Trio, led by 17-year-old New Jersey guitarist and bandleader Marel Hidalgo. A prodigy who began performing at four and formed his first band at six, Marel brings extraordinary technique, imagination, and heart to SOPAC, drawing on a musical journey that already spans reggae, calypso, soca, dub, rocksteady, and straight-ahead jazz.  Jazz in the Loft is curated by Grammy-winning producer and South Orange resident, John Lee.  With Lee’s exceptional ear and vision, every show highlights the artistry of today’s most dynamic jazz performers.

• A Remarkable Young Virtuoso: After years of leading genre-blending bands at venues like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Denver Day of Rock (and appearing on Harry Connick Jr.’s national TV show) Marel turned his focus to jazz.
