Genre-Bending Pop Rock
Horns and Heart
Jersey’s Own
South Orange and Maplewood’s own Essex Funk Collective brings the groove home for a free night of funk, soul, and R&B that’s as much a community celebration as it is a concert. This multi-generational, multi-cultural band are bringing their infectious energy to SOPAC and Floods Hill.
- Roots Right Here: These aren’t strangers passing through town. Essex Funk Collective is made up of longtime South Orange and Maplewood residents who have played together for years, and that chemistry shows in every groove, every riff, and every moment they share the stage.
- A Set List for Everyone: From classic funk and soul staples to modern R&B favorites, their blend of hits spans generations and genres. It’s the kind of music that gets everyone on their feet, from the first song to the last.
- Pure Community Energy: Few things feel better than dancing with your neighbors. This free event is a celebration of the vibrant, diverse community that makes SOMA what it is, powered by a band that lives it every day.
Come ready to move. Essex Funk Collective doesn’t just play music, they bring the room together, and a night with them is proof that some of the best talent around is right in your own backyard.
About South Orange Summer Nights
Wednesday night at Floods Hill in Meadowland Park is your arts scene all summer long. In July, music takes over, convening the entire SOMA community for free concerts & yummy local food trucks. In August, popular movies play on the lawn — bring a blanket & the whole family for this film series! South Orange Summer Nights is presented by the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) & the South Orange Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
