Join us for the Final Gala Concert of the Columbia High School (CHS) Jazz season as the CHS Jazz Ensemble presents, for the first time, at the South Orange Performing Arts Center!

Always a highlight of the year, the Jazz Ensemble concert is the culmination of the season’s work, learning and performing a variety of Jazz styles from Big Band to Swing, with Smooth and Funk in between.  This year’s concert celebrates Jazz music, the only truly American art form, through the works of legendary Jazz musicians Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Green, and more.

The CHS Jazz Ensemble would like to thank the CHS Cougar Boosters for their continued support. In addition, they are grateful to SOPAC, the Orange Orphan Society, and the Bergen Foundation for affording the Jazz Ensemble the pleasure of working with local Jazz legends John Lee (bass guitar), Alex Collins (piano), Mark Gross (saxophone), Freddie Hendrix (trumpet), Karl Latham (drums), and Jason Jackson (trombone).  Each one devoted their time to visit rehearsals and coach sectionals, which has made an indelible impact on the success of the group.

About the CHS Jazz Ensemble

The Columbia High School Jazz Ensemble is an extracurricular ensemble comprised of over thirty instrumentalists from grades 9-12.  The Ensemble rehearses twice a week beginning in November, studying various styles and genres of Jazz repertoire, supporting individual student learning and proficiency, and reinforcing important concepts of advanced musicianship through the study and performance of a wide range of Jazz repertoire.

The Jazz Ensemble also performs at various civic, community, and school events, including the CHS Cougar Boosters’ annual Golf Outing in May, as well as participates in several adjudication festivals in spring.
