Bill Charlap Trio

Time magazine wrote that Bill Charlap “approaches a song the way a lover approaches his beloved…no matter how imaginative or surprising his take on a song is, he invariably zeroes in on its essence.” Charlap has spent his career doing something deceptively simple: finding the soul of a great song and letting it breathe.

• Jazz as Conversation: The Bill Charlap Trio is recognized as one of the leading groups in jazz, featuring Grammy-winning pianist Bill Charlap, bassist David Wong, and renowned jazz drummer Carl Allen.  Their intuitive, conversational interplay cannot be manufactured, and hearing them live is to understand what a great jazz trio can be.
• A Career Rooted in the Songbook: Charlap has recorded celebrated albums drawing from Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern. His collaboration with Tony Bennett, The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern, won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. He has performed alongside Wynton Marsalis, Gerry Mulligan, and Diana Krall.
• A Master in the Room: There are pianists who impress and pianists who move you. Bill Charlap does both, often in the same phrase.
