Tom Rush and Livingston Taylor, two Folk legends that made musical history through the decades, come to the SOPAC stage in a double bill celebrating the uplifting music that gives joy and inspiration to people throughout the world.
Tom Rush, a pioneer of the urban Folk movement that shaped the music of the ‘60s and the renaissance of the ‘80s and ‘90s, can rightfully take his place as a living legend.
Tom Rush began his musical career in the early ’60s playing the Boston-area clubs while still a Harvard student. Club 47 (now Club Passim) was the flagship of the coffee house fleet, and he was soon holding down a weekly spot, learning from the legendary artists who came to play, honing his skills and growing into his talent. Among his numerous chart-topping hits is “No Regrets”, a song that has been covered time and again through the years, is an acknowledged folk classic. Today, Tom Rush lives every moment with “no regrets,” still touring, making music and doing what he loves best. The years have only enhanced his passionate love of music and performing.
Livingston Taylor picked up his first guitar at age 13 and began a decades-long career that has spanned genres, showcasing his talents for songwriting, performance and teaching. The fourth child of a musical family, Livingston shares the musical spotlight with his brother James Taylor. He and James have collaborated on several songs including “I Will Be in Love with You,” “I’ll Come Running,” and “Boatman,” all of which spent time on the top-40 lists.
Livingston Taylor has toured with major artists such as Jimmy Buffett and Jethro Tull and continues to tour today. He still maintains a full tour schedule while also working at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches Stage Performance courses. Taylor partnered with award-winning director Tracey Anarella to film the documentary “Livingston Taylor—Live is Good” slated for release in Fall of 2017. The documentary tells the compelling story of Livingston, his life, his career and his unique and amazing classes at the Berklee College of Music.
