The New York Theatre Ballet company, founded by artistic director Diana Byer in 1978, has a long tradition of talent and excellence, presenting classical ballet to a wider audience outside of New York. At SOPAC, they return to present two performances of the holiday classic The Nutcracker, choreographed by Keith Michael and set to the famed original score by Tchaikovsky.

This version of The Nutcracker is the first of the New York Theatre Ballet’s one-hour performances, which began in the 1980s with the goal of bringing classical ballet to the family audience. This presentation is the only hour-long professional production of The Nutcracker in the New York metropolitan area, making it a must-see for fans of the work and classical ballet.
