The Mental Health Association of Essex County
The Mental Health Association of Essex County presents the “The Great Lady of Soul,” Bettye LaVette for an intimate evening of classics and recent recordings. Called “The sexiest female vocalist alive,” by Esquire, the Grammy-nominated LaVette has an acclaimed multi-faceted style that combines elements of blues, rock, soul, gospel and country, producing a voice that stops the show.
Recently recognized as a peerless soul singer, LaVette’s career has spanned over three decades, with hits such as “My Man – He’s a Lovin’ Man” and “Let Me Down Easy.” In 2005, she released the album I’ve Got My Own Hell to Raise (ANTI-Records); comprised entirely of works by female composers the album garnered international critical acclaim and launched LaVette on a touring career that has included performances at Joe’s Pub, The Kennedy Center and at President Barack Obama’s inaugural week outdoor concert, We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial.
