Launched in 2004 by SFJAZZ, the presenter of the annual San Francisco Jazz Festival, the Collective has been hailed as one of the hottest groups on the international jazz scene. Praised for its innovative approach to repertoire, the ensemble will be performing compositions by modern jazz master Wayne Shorter as well as original pieces from Collective members.
Through this pioneering approach, the group simultaneously honors jazz's history while championing daring new directions in music.
